If we haven’t been introduced by way of social media in the last few years, I’m Jamie Fleming-Dixon, and in addition to being the founder of Black Girl’s Guide to Calm, I’m also the founder of She Runs It, and I’m a meditation and yoga coach, speaker, and author.
My life has definitely not gone according to my plans, considering I graduated with a degree in mass communication and had plans of either working for or creating a magazine. But as one of my favorite quotes from Oprah says, “God can dream a bigger dream for me, for you, than you could ever dream for yourself.” And as I’m coming into really knowing my purpose and what I’m put here to do, I’m seeing how true her statement really is.
Why Meditation and Yoga?
Although I’ve been practicing meditation off and on for a few years, I became more consistent after having a baby in 2013. Long story short (you can read the long version here), I found myself completely overwhelmed and frustrated with my roles as wife, mama, and entrepreneur (who worked from home). Ultimately, prayer, affirmations, yoga,self-care, and meditation helped me change myself and my life — literally. And my goal is to show other Black women how these things can change their lives for the better as well.
